Carpet

Today I had to get out of the house for a while as Brett was demolishing my garden. I decided I would go and look at some carpet.
After always thinking that polished floor boards were all you ever need, I have been turned onto carpet by Paul. He really wants it and we have compromised on carpet in our bedroom. I will never want wall to wall carpet everywhere, but it’s nice in a few rooms.
I arrived at the carpet shop to interrogate the carpet man! My main worries about carpet are these: I want as high a stain resistance as possible, I hate lying or sitting on carpet that then leaves hair all over me and I don’t want to pay $100 a sqm.

I asked to look at the highest quality nylon and wool and we discussed the differences. Wool is a natural product and therefore cannot be treated with stain resistant products and is hard to clean. It is also sheds, constantly. I didn’t realise this, I thought this was all new carpets, no, it’s just wool and it lasts YEARS. This is a real issue for people with allergies, also the small fibres allow dust mites to breed in the carpet. Dust mites can’t breed in nylon.

I looked very closely at both the wool and the nylon. I could mostly not tell the difference, some of the wool carpets were very fuzzy looking, partly due to the constant shedding, partly due to the natural fibre.
SO. I am going nylon. I know some of you will think I’m mad. But I just can’t see why I would use wool when the advantages to nylon are so obvious! I found a lovely colour, a kind of mushroom grey. The carpet place has free installation at the moment, I am considering placing my order, but I’d love some feedback!! The colour I want is the top one on the pic below. It’s the most expensive nylon at $57sqm. The wool I was looking at with the same colour and cut was the same price.
